Which kadence did you find?
Eight products share this name and two more share its sound. A developer's map of all of them, and the one word that separates the CLI from the rest.
Somebody said the word to you, you typed it into a search box, and you got a WordPress theme. Or a hybrid-work booking platform with a developer portal, which is worse, because that one looks like it could plausibly be the thing you were told about.
This page is the map. It exists because the name is crowded, and because a
developer looking for one particular kadence currently has no way to tell which
of them they are reading about until several clicks in.
Everything called kadence that a developer can land on
| What it is | Where it lives | How you got here |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress theme and block plugin | kadencewp.com | searched the name alone |
| Workplace booking and space management, with a public API | kadence.co | searched the name plus developer or API |
| Recruitment company | kadencetalent.com | searched the name plus careers |
| Kademlia DHT framework for Node | @kadenceproject/kadence on npm, deprecated | searched the name plus npm |
| Market research agency | kadence.com | searched the name alone |
| Musical instruments and lessons | kadence.in | searched the name alone |
| Omakase restaurant in Orlando | — | searched the name alone |
| Git-native task journal, a CLI | github.com/bogutskiandriy/kadence | you are on its site |
Then the homophone, which catches people who heard the name spoken rather than
written: cadence, with a C. cadence-workflow/cadence is a distributed
orchestration engine for long-running business logic. thomas-powers-jr/cadence
is a verification layer that re-checks acceptance criteria for AI-assisted work
— close enough in subject matter to this one to genuinely confuse someone.
Two traps worth naming before you lose an afternoon
Searching for the npm package finds the wrong one; installing it does not.
Three of the first results for kadence npm package are the distributed-hash-table
framework or a CDN copy of it, and none of them is this project. The registry
disagrees with the search page: npm install kadence does install this one, at
0.8.1. The framework publishes under the scoped
@kadenceproject/kadence, which is deprecated, and its deprecation notice points
at @deadcanaries/kadence — a package the registry answers 404 for. If you were
looking for the DHT, the undeprecated copy is kadence-kim.
The developer portal you found is probably the workplace platform. It has an
API at api.kadence.co, a getting-started guide for developers, and a GitHub
organisation. If you searched kadence developer and landed on documentation,
that is almost certainly what you are reading, and it is about booking desks.
What the name is worth, measured
I ran five probes on one day, nine results each, and counted where the git-native CLI appeared:
| What you typed | Where the CLI ranked |
|---|---|
kadence developer | nowhere in nine results |
kadence npm package | nowhere in nine results |
kadence cli developer tool | third |
kadence task journal for AI agents | first and second |
kadence git journal | the first six results |
Read down that column. The name on its own returns none of it. The name plus what the thing actually is returns it first. One word — cli, git, journal — moves it from absent to the top of the page.
That is not a ranking problem to be fixed. It is what a shared name means: eight products, and the search engine has no way to guess which one you meant until you tell it. A WordPress theme framework, a funded workplace platform and a market research agency all have a longer claim on the word than an eleven-day-old domain does, and none of them is going to stop using their own name.
So the practical answer, if you are looking for this one specifically: say the
noun as well as the name. kadence git journal finds it. kadence developer
finds desks.
Which one you are looking for
If what you were told about was a WordPress site builder, a way to book a desk, a peer-to-peer networking library, or dinner — the table above has your link and this is the wrong page.
If what you were told about was a command-line tool that keeps tasks in your git repository as an append-only journal, so that your team and your coding agents read the same record — that is this one. The distinguishing facts, so you can confirm it is what you were promised before installing anything:
- it is a CLI, installed from npm, currently version 0.8.1
- it stores tasks as events in your repo, not in a database or a hosted service
- 125 KB packed, MIT licensed
- the reason it exists is merge conflicts: across 8,396 merge commits in 130 public repositories using file-based trackers, task-file conflicts hit 15% of repositories, and 89% of those are the content conflicts an append-only journal removes
- an agent asking it one question reads 982 bytes, and that does not grow as the project does
Every one of those numbers names the test that keeps it true, which is the habit this project is built around and the reason this page tells you plainly that it ranks nowhere for its own name.
You found kadence the CLI. What it does and why is the documentation; the measurements are where each number above comes from.
Where the numbers come from
- Probe run 2026-09-24, nine results per query, one engine: `kadence developer` returned no page belonging to the git-native CLI; `kadence npm package` returned none either; `kadence cli developer tool` returned github.com/bogutskiandriy/kadence third; `kadence task journal for AI agents` returned it first and second; `kadence git journal` returned it in the first six positions
- The WordPress theme and block plugin are at kadencewp.com; the same probe returned wpmarmite.com/en/kadence-theme, inspry.com/wordpress-services/kadence-wordpress-development and linkedin.com/company/kadencewp beside them — read 2026-09-24
- The workplace operations platform is at kadence.co, with a public API at api.kadence.co, a developer getting-started guide at help.kadence.co and a GitHub organisation at github.com/wearekadence — read 2026-09-24
- Read from registry.npmjs.org on 2026-09-24: the bare name `kadence` resolves to this project at 0.6.0, MIT, homepage kadence.guru; `@kadenceproject/kadence` is the distributed-hash-table framework at 5.0.4, published 2019-01-14 and deprecated with a notice pointing at `@deadcanaries/kadence`, which returns HTTP 404 from the registry and is reported by `npm view` as not in this registry; `kadence-kim` is the same framework at 3.2.2, published 2018-04-09 and not deprecated. github.com/henrytseng/kadence and github.com/pointnetwork/kadence mirror that codebase
- kadencetalent.com is a recruitment company, kadence.com is a market research agency, kadence.in sells musical instruments, and Kadence in Orlando is an omakase restaurant — all returned by probes on 2026-09-24
- The homophone projects are github.com/cadence-workflow/cadence, a distributed orchestration engine, and github.com/thomas-powers-jr/cadence, a verification layer for AI-assisted development — read 2026-09-24
- 8,396 merge commits across 130 public repositories using file-based trackers — kadence docs/research/probe-a-results.md
